Best laptop for students in Malta

A student laptop has to last the whole course, survive the bag, and keep up with Teams, Office, the browser and a few programs at once. The products below show what we have today, with prices incl. VAT.

What it needs

• 16 GB of memory (RAM). 8 GB works, but with Teams, a browser and Word open it soon feels slow. 16 GB is the best money you'll spend.
• An SSD of 256 GB or more. Notes and documents are small; 512 GB if you keep photos and videos.
• Intel Core i5 / Ultra 5 or AMD Ryzen 5. Enough for every course except heavy 3D, video editing or engineering software.
• A 14-inch screen to carry every day, or 15–16 inches if it mostly stays on a desk.
• A good keyboard and battery: you'll type thousands of words on it.

By course

• Most courses (business, law, languages, IT basics): any laptop with the specs above.
• Engineering, architecture, 3D and video: a stronger laptop with a dedicated graphics card, such as an RTX model. Check the software your course uses.
• Gaming in the evenings too: look at our gaming laptops.

Refurbished: a smart choice for students

Our refurbished business laptops (Lenovo ThinkPad, HP ProBook, Dell) were made for offices: strong cases, good keyboards, easy to repair. They cost much less than new and come checked, with warranty. Open box laptops were opened or on display, and are as good as new.

Is 8 GB of RAM enough for a student?

For writing and the web, yes. For Teams plus many tabs, or anything heavier, choose 16 GB.

Should a student buy a Chromebook or a Windows laptop?

Most courses in Malta expect Microsoft Office and Windows programs, so a Windows laptop is the safer choice.

What if it breaks during the year?

Every laptop has two years' warranty, and our own workshop in Ħamrun repairs laptops, often the same or the next day.
