A mini PC is a complete computer the size of a book: it fits behind the monitor, uses little power and makes almost no noise. For most office work it's all you need.
A mini PC is right for
- Office work: email, Word, Excel, the browser, Teams and accounts programs.
- Reception desks, shops and small spaces: it fits behind a monitor with a mount and leaves the desk clear.
- A TV or a meeting room screen.
- Saving power: a mini PC uses a fraction of the electricity of a big desktop, which counts when it's on all day.
A full-size desktop is better for
- Graphics work, CAD, video and 3D, which need a graphics card: our office PCs include one with an Nvidia professional card.
- Gaming: see our gaming PCs.
- Expanding later: more drives, cards and memory slots.
What to look for in a mini PC
- Processor: an Intel Core i5 / Ultra 5 or better for everyday office work.
- Memory: 16 GB for a smooth day with many programs open.
- Storage: an SSD of 256 GB or more; 512 GB if files are kept on the PC.
- Ports: enough USB for the keyboard, mouse and printer, and two video outputs if you use two screens.
New or refurbished?
Refurbished business mini PCs (like Dell OptiPlex Micro) were made to work all day in offices. Checked in our shop and with warranty, they're a good way to equip several desks for less.
Can a mini PC run two monitors?
Most can: check that it has two video outputs (HDMI, DisplayPort or USB-C).
Can I upgrade a mini PC?
Usually the memory and the SSD, yes; there's no room for a graphics card.
Do you supply several PCs for an office?
